Oh how absolutely sporting of the good people at The Oz to let us all know that Mark Scott, businessman and CEO of ABC Inc is going give their boss, Rupert Jnr a jolly good tongue-lashing when he speaks in London. Very Respectful…I wonder if the planet (janet) had anything to do with it?
But the real SCOOP is that Mark wants to sell Australia Network News to the Chinese! Oz Network News for those who don’t know is the overseas TV service that the ABC is contracted to provide to the Australian Government for dissemination via satellite to our near neighbour s. In other words, the Chinese can already get Oz News if they have a satellite receiver, which apparently is pretty common.
However, not content with foisting Oz Network on anyone who wants it, Mark thinks the Oz Network News deserves a spot in the Chinese state-run pay-tv model. You know how these state-sponsored media types like to stick together, and on the plus side the ABC news is so evenly balanced these days (excluding the odd Uighur or Tibet reference) who could possibly be offended by its content?
